There are events you put on, and there are evenings that take on a life of their own. On Wednesday, close to 150 of the finest people across hedge funds, trading and technology gathered in the Belgravia Room at The Lanesborough for 100 Hedge Funds London, and from the first glass of champagne to the final whistle, it was everything we’d hoped for.

The room
Founders and CTOs. Quantitative researchers and traders. Engineers and portfolio managers. Drawn from across the hedge fund, market-making and digital assets world, with senior figures from the major banks among them. It is a rare thing to get this much of the market into one room, and rarer still for the conversation to flow as easily as it did all night.

The setting
The Belgravia Room is hard to beat. Soaring Georgian windows, hand-painted ceilings and cut-crystal chandeliers overlooking Hyde Park lent the evening a real sense of occasion, and the team at The Lanesborough looked after every guest beautifully.

The little touches
A string quartet to set the tone on arrival. A chess corner that drew a quietly competitive crowd. And, because timing is everything, the football up on the big screen as the night rolled on. Come on England.
